Esplendor Palermo Soho Buenos Aires Reviews
Slightly less than boutique hotel standard Mar 12, 2010
I've stayed in both Esplendors in Palermo area. Palermo and Palermo Hollywood. I much prefered Palermo Hollywood. There was a world of diffrence between the two hotels.
The location is both excellent. Palermo is closer to the boutiques more like soho in new york and Palermo Hollywood is newer, alternative and rough with characteristic restaurents, like LES(lower east side) in NY. There was a vegetarian restaurents near and I was super stoked.
Ok, so the hotel, it has such elegant and modern lobby, you develope a huge expectation for the room. But The rooms didn't really relate to the lobby. the rooms are quite basic. I would even say not up to the boutique hotel standard. Among the things disappointed was the carpeted floor. I mean, Park Hyatt's floor is also carpeted but this carpet's finishing and quality was less than good.
And the bathroom was even worse let down. The sink was outside the bathroom, and I didn't like this combined with carpeted floor. I tend to splash water around when washing and didn't like the damp carpet afterwards.
And the bathroom itself was no batter than chain hotels like Mercure. The tub and shower curtain and toilett were pretty basic and dated. They had hair drier that is attached to the wall, the kind you have to keep holding down the button to keep it going.
These points made me think that the rooms in Palermo are less than boutique hotel standard.
The cleaning was not impressive either. They change sheets every 4, or 5 days. I stayes 5, or 6 days and they only changed sheets once. But I found out that this is quite characteristic of hotels in BA.
One good point was that there was a big round table in the room with comfy chair so I could put my bags and cluster of other stuff and could stiil have the take out there.
I paid about 85 usd being a low season, so I can't say it was a terrible value but compared to other BA boutique hotel, I was less than impressed.
