N37°51,778' W25°47,815' The AVM bus from Ponta Delgada stops in front of this café, bakery and restaurant. This is probably the only place in the village of Sete Cidades to have a drink or something to eat and to replenish your vital stock of fluids. We enjoyed our coffee and chocolate cake before the start of the well-known Caldeira das Sete Cidades walk in August 2016. Very good coffee.

On our return, we happened to stumble into the local procession leaving the church with the patron accompanied by fireworks. People arranged flowers in the middle of the street and the patron was carried over it. The significance eluded us, but it was clearly the most important day for the village that year. We watched the procession and decided to have something to drink and perhaps to eat at Esplanada Sao Nicolau before returning to Ponta Delgada.

Esplanada Sao Nicolau has a large restaurant behind the café for buffet dinner parties. This restaurant was not used this day because quests opted to sit outside or on the lawn in the back of the café. Although the café had drafted in extra staff members, the place was disorganised. We ordered drinks, but the drinks were sold out. We ordered some food, but the chef made clear he ran out of stock on the most important day of the village. At the end, we settled for hake fillets (filettes de pascada) and salad. The fish was from the deep freeze. Green salad with bread was presented without dressing, just olive oil or wine vinegar. Both disappointing.
