If you often find yourself getting moved by the other riders on the escalators in the DC metro it's because of:

The Unwritten Law of the Escalators

Stand on the right
Walk on the left

Everyone who lives here knows it and abides by it. Yes, it's a shame Metro doesn't post it but they don't. Abide by it and everyone will think you live here!

Ah, yes, so very, very true! I wish they didn't put those things in the middle of them, as I always have the urge to slide down. However, that is most likely why they are there!
I always thought though that it was common knowledge that you stand to the right and walk on the left. Or, is that b/c I am from here?
