Great little hostel!! Jan 16, 2010
If you are wanting to stay at a hostel that will provide you info on Torres Del Paine (TDP), Erratic Rock (ER) is definately the place to stay! The hostel is run by a pair of Yankee brothers Bill & Phil who are laid back, helpful but also professional in running their hostel.

ER has a great atmosphere and is very homely. It has its own little lounge with a range of videos to choose from (around 200 +), the boys put on a good breakfast, which they make their very own homemade bread and even cook you an omelette to go with it! The beds are really comfy and ER is nice and clean!

One of the bonus points about ER is that everyday they have a 3pm talk which they go over all the info you need for TDP. You even get a hot coffee or tea while you sit back and soak in all the info cos its alot to take in. They offer the 3pm talk to anyone and not just those who are staying at the hostel.

ER also has gear for hire which is great as its good quality stuff! If you are staying at ER you get a 10% discount off the gear you hire!

ER also supports recycling with a big R!! They have recycling draws for glass, plastic, tins and also an organic waste bin. They also have a recycling bin for used gas cannisters that people have used while tramping in TDP so if don´t want to buy a full one just grab one of the used ones which is really useful!

The only bad thing I would have to say is that the Phil & Bill don´t like soccer but are grid iron fantatics! Besides that its a great place to stay with helpful staff and a great place just to chill before or after your TDP expedition! I highly recommend Erratic Rock!!

Friendliest hostel ever! Nov 25, 2009
You will not find a friendlier hostel than Erratic Rock in Natales. run by Bill and his brother, they go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible - they are always around to help answer questions and always concerned with the welfare of their guests. It was a totally refreshing experience for me and again proved that South Ammerican service has a long way to go - these guys are American and really understand what their customers appreciate.

The hostel itself is normal enough - usual facilities - wi-fi internet, hot showers, comfy beds. Breakfast time is again a unique experience as Bill or his brother cooks breakfast for you, whilst merrily chatting away - homemade bread, omlette, yoghurts, coffee, all very good.

My only reservation about the hostel is the affiliation with Carla, the travel agent (see also my South American blog) very careful whenn booking anything through her - having taken my money, she was no help at all when I had problems with bookings she had made for me in refugios in Torres del Paine N.P., and she takes commission in an underhand way whilst claiming to take none.

Despite going to bed last night with a sore throat and high fever, today began at 2am - when me and 4 friends set out on a two hour hike in the darkness up to the Mirador Las Torres.  Our plan…Puerto Natales that evening by bus, I checked back into Erratic Rock and back into my little single room.  Feeling…
