Ernest Hemingway Restaurant, Cocktails & Cigars Reims Reviews
Careful with the restaurant portion--Cocktails & Cigars are OK Mar 12, 2010
Our group liked the 70's-80's videos and the decor at Ernest Hemingway in downtown Reims, France, but the restaurant food had much to be desired.
The waiter did a great job opening and pouring the champagne (see the video in the related blog) but he did not speak any English whatsoever, so just a word of caution for those who only speak English. Antoher word of caution: based on 2 out of 3 meals we had in Reims, the French "medium" equates to "rare" so always order 2 levels higher than usual if you are American, especially for steaks.
Our group arrived at Ernest Hemingway ready to eat and have some drinks. We liked the separate eating areas away from the cigar lounge. The decor was very Hemingway themed and eclectic. The 70's and 80's videos were a riot (like a young Joe Cocker singing away) and the atmosphere was enjoyable.
Tapas appetizers run 5-6 Euros and meals run 13-18 Euros per person, plus drinks.
The drinks were good (Champagne, wine, Irish coffee, etc.) but the food left much to be desired. One person ordered fajitas that arrived raw. The cheeseburgers arrived with a rancid taste. My melted cheese LA PATATERIE LA NORMANDE (jambon de pays, camembert, crème) over slided baked potato was OK but not spectaular. The slice of melted camembert cheese was very thin and the meal seemed plain, except for the horseradish-based dressing on the accompanying salad which was the highlight of my meal (see photo).
We decided as a group not to return the second night of our trip to downtown Reims to Ernest Hemingway Restaurant and did not recommend it to others in our group, except for cocktails and cigars.
Use caution when eating here--although admittedly it could have been language related.
