Erebuni: Museum of the Establishment of Yerevan Apr 11, 2011
This is one of the most interesting and important museums of Yerevan. It was opened in 1968 that coincided with the 2750th anniversary of Yerevan.Erebuni museum can be found on Arin Berd Hill, on the top of which the Urartian Fortress of Erebuni was built by Argishti I, the King of Urartu in 782 B. C according to one of the cuneiform inscriptions. This City-Fortress was excavated in Soviet times and some parts of the structure were reinforced and restored and the fortress was turned into an outdoor Museum. The main parts of the fortress were built from raw bricks. There was even a pagan temple of God Khaldi occupying an important part of the fortress. During the excavation archeologists found huge karasses (pitches for storage of wine) buried deep in the ground. Erebuni Fortress Museum of Yerevan houses 12,235 exhibits. If you visit Yerevan this place is highly recommended.
