Very friendly place run by a lovely family Jul 11, 2010
The Erali Guesthouse is a former META/Acted associated guesthouse, just off the Pamir Highway in Eastern-Murghab. Though it is a bit of a walk to the centre, this is at present the nicest and most comfortable place to stay in Murghab. The brightly coloured interior and the lovely family who run the place make a welcome change from the drab and depressing town.

Technically this is a home stay, but because the family lives in a separate building and they have several guest rooms available, guest house is a better description.

There is a choice of rooms and you can either sleep in a bed in a six-bed dorm, or have a mattress on the floor in a room which sleeps 2 to 3 persons. The rate for accommodation is up to the guests (you can choose to pay anything between $6 and $10 per person per night) and meals are $2 and $4 for breakfast and lunch/dinner respectively.

Food is of fairly good quality but you shouldn't expect too much in this region. Nothing really grows here, so most meals will be based on rice or noodles, flavoured with onion and carrots and the odd piece of mutton. Portions are sumptuous though.

Toilets are of the hole-in-the-ground variety in a little shack outside. There is also a bucket shower available in a lovely heated room. A wonderful treat at the end of a cold day.
