Cheap but not the best hostel experience Jun 26, 2012
My friends and I went to Lisboa for a weekend trip from Spain. We knew it was going to be a challenge but we took it on, and we really got through it! We stayed at Equity Point, however, it was not the best hostel experience we had.

We arrived by overnight bus, so we were ridiculously exhausted. We headed over to the hostel after realizing that touring right now is a waste. This was at 10:30AM. We paid our fees, and the kind staff told us we have to wait until 12PM since that is the check-in time. So we went out and shopped for a bit.

We were soooooo exhausted that we just wanted to go sleep as soon as 12 hit. We went back at noon and our room still wasn't ready. Besides the good service, fun people, great location and prices, this was my worst experience with a hostel. We were literally the first ones to be there that day and our rooms weren't gonna be ready until 2PM. And the funniest part is that they ask you to check out by 10AM. So if you're planning to check in early or check out late, this is not suggested.

But everything else was nice. The place has all the things a backpacker needs. Free wifi to breakfast in the morning, it's a really nice place. The location is really nice as well. I just wish that we were able to rest a bit before spending our first day in Lisboa.

Equity Point Lisboa Hostel Overview

Equity Point Lisbon has the best possible location: right in the heart of the city, at the crossroads of Chiado, Bairro Alto and Restauradores neighborhoods. There is an important transit hub very nearby, with an underground station, the famous Subida de Gloria streetcar, and convenient airport buses. The hostel is just a three minute walk from the 'Mirador de San Pedro de Alcantara' where you can enjoy some of the best views of the city. The building which hosts Equity Point Lisboa was built around 1800 to be the palace of a wealthy Lisboan family. The building has been completely refurbished but still retains its incredible fireplaces, ornate three meter high ceilings and its unique original wooden floor. The facade has been restored to its original color, which gives the hostel a unique look and makes it easily identifiable from virtually anywhere in the city.
