Lainé' warehouse,Capc,Contemporary Art Museum Dec 26, 2008
The Contemporary Art Museum is situated in an ancient warehouse called Entrepôt Lainé,Lainé'warehouse.
This real warehouse of colonial commodities was buit on the edge of a neighbourhood today known for its facade on the Embankment:Les Chartrons.
The task of supervising the works was entrusted to Claude Deschamps in 1822,the building was completed in 1824,using as main materials,Bourg-sur-Gironde stone, clay brick and Oregon pine. This monumental construction was almost completely devoid of decorative effects.
In the 20 th century, the warehouse gradually losts its usefulness.
In the 1960s,it was closed;acqired by the city in 1973,it was converted
in a cultural centre displaying permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The permanent collection gathers more than 700 works of 140 artists like Sol Lewitt,Keith Haring,Mario Merz, of the 60s and 70s.
You'll find there also:
.ARC EN REVE architectural centre
.a famous but quite expensive fusion food restaurant,Café du musée, designed by Andrée Putman, with a lovely terrace.
