beautiful little Island Enoshima Dec 01, 2011
Enoshima, a small island attached to the city of fujisawa, is blessed with the abundant beauty of nature, cluture, and the sea surrounding. from the top you get a nice view of mt. fuji, and you see many shrines and ancient temples along the way.
on the back side you see large clifs, ocean stretch, and tidal pools where many locals lke to fish. the steps can be very steep and tiring but the hike is worth the view.
Enoshima is best known for it's naked statue of benzaiten, a shinto diety. near the top there is a view with a bell to be rung (lovers bell) with hundreds of locks attached to the fence infront of the bell which signify undying love.
You can take the private Odakyu line from Shinjuku to Fujisawa, then change to the enoden to get to enoshima. If you have a Japan Rail Pass, you can reach Fujisawa by taking a Tokaido Line from Tokyo (about 50 minutes) or a Shonan-Shinjuku line train from Shinjuku (about 50 minutes) at no charge, then pay the fee for the Enoden.
