Upscale Italian focusing on local ingredients ... finally open! Jan 03, 2010
Eno Terra has been a project long in the making. This restaurant is part of the Terra Momo group that owns Mediterra, Teresa Caffe, and Witherspoon Bread Company. They also owned Nova Terra, which was my favorite, but has unfortunately closed. Eno Terra is located in historic Kingston in what used to be the Wine Press, an establishment that was a local Princeton. The Terra Momo group purchased the building about eight years ago and took them about seven years to finally open this new restaurant in the fall of 2008. Dealing with the preservation and architectural rules of Kingston was part of the delay. Eno Terra's motto is "eat local, drink global".

When we visited, they had only been open for two months, but the surface was efficient and knowledgeable. We started off with a charcuterie plate they call salumi and formaggi as well as a plate of heirloom tomatoes. Although there was a lot of variety of cheeses, meats, tomatoes, and olives, this started was not too overwhelming or filling. A surprise was a local honey that went excellently with some of the cheeses. My entree was short ribs with sweet potatoes and collard greens. Sounds more like soul food than Italian, right? But it had a modern preparation and presentation and was very tasty.

For dessert we got a trio of sorbets because they come from the very popular Princeton gourmet ice cream shop, the Bent Spoon. The flavors were vanilla, ginger and peach, and each was intense with authentic flavor. A nice finish to great meal.

Added pictures from New Year's 2010 dinner.
