Eng Bee Tin, An Urban Legend! Manila Reviews
eng bee tin, an urban legend! Apr 25, 2009
it is difficult for me to describe this chinese restaurant in the philippines, because the best way to describe this is in tagalog language, because the humor is at its best!
located deep in the heart of manila, in one of the oldest district - chinatown is the urban legend eng bee tin.
the words (eng) bee tin in tagalog language literally means "anti-climax" and they were alway making fun of it in filipino films, sitcoms, tv shows and many more - pertaining specially to having "physical body contact" hahahaha. i always laugh whenever i hear the word eng bee tin.
but little did i know that it really exist!
as me and ben toured around old manila and chinatown together with ted, ted suggested that we have an authentic chinese snack - at eng bee tin! hahahaaha i laughed so hard in the middle of the street and asked ted if he's really serious! lol hahaha so we went there and behold me, of all the years - childhood, teenager and being an adult - i never knew that this chinese restaurant really exist!
i never saw so many chinese concentrated in such a small space! its like i/we were not in the philippines! and ive never seen so much purple color in my entire life!
the restaurant isnt cozy, with klings and klangs of silverwares and porcelain, always busy, staffs here and there bustling themselves in such a small place, then at the trasnparent mirrow window - underprivelege filipinos looked longingly at the customers inside the restaurant and then begging for food, the atmosphere is choking - BUT eng bee tin really made up for that - because the food they make are really gorgeous! nothing beats the real authentic chinese cantonese cuisine! because the philippines and china had interactions for so many centuries and the chinatown in manila is the oldest chinatown in the world built in the 17th century.
they have so many to-die-for specialties, big servings and suprisingly very cheap!
so if you are in manila, never forget to visit this not-so urban legend anymore - which is eng bee tin!
Part of the i'm crashing like a tidal wave that drags me out to sea. travel blog
