Popular cream puffs in Chinatown! Jan 30, 2017
Emma and I were walking along Dixon Street in Chinatown one evening during our visit to Sydney in November 2015. We had just enjoyed an Indonesian meal in the nearby Dixon House food court and were looking for dessert.

We noticed a long line of people queueing at a window next to Emperor's Garden Cake & Bakery. While the bakery serves a large variety of cakes and desserts, just one product is dispensed from the window. The small window with the long queue serves Emperor's Cream Puffs – and evidently sells lots of them!

These small doughnut-like pastry puffs are freshly prepared (you can see them being made through the window when you reach the front of the queue), served hot and filled with a sweet custard. Very nice!

They're only small, so you'll need a few of them. At the time of our visit, they cost 0.35 AUD each, with a reducing unit cost the more you purchase (3 for 1 AUD, 7 for 2 AUD, right through to 20 for 5 AUD). We bought a bag of 7 for 2 AUD.

Tasty, custard-filled pastry puffs in Chinatown. Very popular!
