Emeril’s Delmonico is located on historic St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District of New Orleans. If you’re staying in or around the Garden District, I recommend traveling to and from Emeril’s by street car. It’s an awesome ride that tours St. Charles Avenue, past major attractions like the Audubon Park and Tulane University. It is a nice treat for your eyes and a wonderful prelude to the sensory overload you’ll experience at your table at Emeril’s. For those driving, Emeril’s features free valet parking.

As the location implies, Emeril’s Delmonico is a pricey restaurant. Don’t expect to spend less than $100 on a dinner for two.

I started with the fried calamari topped with olives and sun dried tomatoes. It was very good but a little too spicy for my tastes. For those who like Moroccan spices, this dish would serve as a great appetizer. I also had the gumbo. It was delicious! The gumbo was packed with chicken, sausage and rice. It was New Orleans in a bowl!

My dinner arrived promptly! I had the dry aged New York Strip with garlicky fried potatoes. It was the best steak I’ve ever had! The taste of the steak was distinctive; a flavor much bolder and more concentrated than an ordinary steak. The texture was buttery and similar to that of a filet mignon.

Dessert was Banana Foster’s prepared tableside! It was delicious! There was a strong rum taste but I like rum so I didn’t mind. For those who don’t care for rum, I’m sure that your host would be more than happy to accommodate a request for less rum!

The bill totaled $180 after some well deserved gratuity. The service was outstanding and was one of the highlights of my culinary adventure at Emeril’s Delmonico.
