Emerald Isle Vacation Guide
Emerald Isle sits on the very southern tip of the outer banks. Connected to the mainland by its famous causeway bridge, this narrow strip of land is the ideal destination for those whose idea of a vacation is total relaxation. It's miles of beaches are almost completely dominated by stilt homes, a majority of which are rentable. With very few restaurants, Emerald Isle favors those who prefer to buy some fresh fish and grill their dinner ocenside without the hustle and bustle of other tourists around. However, nightlife is only 20 minutes north in Atlantic Beach, home to the annual mational marlin tournament, several charter deep-sea fishing companies and the Civil War Era Fort Macon, which was responsible for protecting the Wilmington-based "blockade runners" that would skirt the coast to the north. Several picturesque golf courses are also within a 45 minute drive.
