Embudu Village South Male Atoll Reviews
A gem that doesn't hurt your pockets Oct 04, 2010
Embudu Village is located at the South Male' Atoll. It's a small island with a size of 285M x 145M. You can walk at the entire island in 20 to 30 mins depending on how fast you walk.
Transfer time from Male International Airport takes about 35 to 50 mins by fast boat.
Almost all the rooms are beach front. We took the superior beach room which has A/C and 2 beds (1 king and 1 single). Hot and cold shower are available (no bath). Water from the faucet tastes salty so use the free fresh water that the resort provides in a small jug (that is,if you're bothered with the after-taste when brushing your teeth :D ). The room also has a dresser and closet. Outside the beach room is a verandah with plastic table and chairs provided. I also love that it has a faucet outside the room so you can wash your sandy feet.
This room has no radio, television (except at the resort bar) and the internet access costs 13 USD per hour. But hey, you didn't go to Maldives for these stuff anyways so who cares about not having the radio, television and internet! Towels, liquid soap and tissue rolls are provided, but no shampoo, conditioner etc so bring your own :)
Full board comes with buffet breakfast, buffet lunch, simple afternoon snack and buffet dinner. So ditch the diet for a moment!
Even on a hot afternoon, most people walk barefoot because the sand doesn't get hot. Personally, I love the feel of the sand on my feet. In the afternoon, it's perferct to just lie on a beach chair under the tree and read books or watch the people swimming/snorkelling or even nap!
Though the resort offers excursions, these are not available on a daily basis. But of course, you can go snorkelling, diving and hang out in the resort bar. Or if you fancy some massage or other beauty treatments, there's teh Serena Spa.
Visit their website at www.embudu.com for further details.
For me, this resort is really a gem. I love the people, the staff are cool (especially at the bar), the room rates are reasonable, and it's not far from the city/airport either. If your flight is at night and you wanna do some shopping in Male, I suggest you leave the resort earlier and ask to be dropped off in Male so you can do some shopping and quick tour around the city.
The transfer cost from Male to the airport is only 1 USD. Since our flight was at 8PM, we left the resort at 1PM so we could do some shopping in Male before heading to the airport. We left our luggage (for free) at the Mookai Hotel in Male (which the resort also owns), so we were able to visit the interesting places in the capital without the heavy bags. Male is too small and 2-3 hours is sufficient to do the tour plus shopping.
Take advantage of the all inclusive package for additional 28 USD per person/night. This entitles you to unlimited drinks (except for canned beers, some cocktails, wines and all fresh fruit juice).
Drinks ala-carte normally cost between 3 to 6 USD. Check the list for the all inclusive package at the bar. Also, they have a special cocktail offer everyday that you can get for free if you're in all-inclusive package.
Sample cost for 4 days/3 nights (based on superior room, 2 persons)
Room rate (full board- buffet bfast, buffet lunch, simple snack and buffet dinner)
196 x 3 = 588
Boat transfer per person (two-way)
52 x 2 = 104
All inclusive per person/night
28 x 3 x 2 = 168
Total = 860 USD
