Elvis World of Art & Craft Negril Reviews
Nov 08, 2007
Elvis Morris, the artist whose roadside stand of wood carvings resides next to the Blue Cave Castle, has been in that location for many years. Its beginnings were much smaller back when he started; only a small table held some of his first carvings. Today, a much larger area occupies the space along with a small building where many of his pieces are prominently displayed. You also know by the weather-worn sign that you've found Elvis World of Art & Craft!
While struggling to make a living many years ago, Elvis discovered a hobby and talent which he decided to turn into his living. All of the art featured at his stand are his hand-carved works. You'll find Rasta man carvings, giant giraffes, crocodiles galore, toy drums, spinning toys, busts of Jamaicans, proud lions, colorful suns, copulating couples, Jamaican Mamas and all manner of carved souvenirs. He proudly proclaims that people from all over the world have contacted him when they want more of his work and he will ship to any destination on the planet! (If interested, e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com if that doesn't work.) Prices range depending on what it is, the size, as well as the intricacy of the carving. However, as with all street vendors, there is much room for negotiation so if you can haggle, you can walk away with a bargain! Just bear in mind that these artisans are trying to make a living so you'll have your work cut out for you.
Regardless of whether or not you're actually looking to take away some Jamaican souvenirs, if you're in the area, it's worth stopping by to say 'hi' and have a chat with this very amicable fellow! (Even the chickens enjoy hanging out with him!)
