The title can be taken in two senses; for me personally to a boyhood past when Heaven knows how many times I went to this house - I loved it. However to most it will be more meaningful as a flashback to the 16th century. The name of its street, New Street is a bit anomalous today! However it was built among a number of older streets to relieve a 16th century housing shortage and was probably the home of somebody quite wealthy.

Over time New St ceased to be either new or wealthy and the house became a flagrantly overcrowded slum. Since it was acquired as a museum by the City of Plymouth it has been renovated and furnished with period artefacts.

I still love it - don't dream of missing it if you ever go to the city of my birth. meanwhile see some photos on http://www.plymouth.gov.uk/homepage/creativityandculture/museums/museumelizabethanhouse.htm
