Elia Kos Reviews
Elia Restaurant ~ old town Kos Sep 13, 2011
After we climbed about in the ruins below the old town area David and I decided we would go get a cup of coffee and some lunch. We stopped at a tiny place with chairs overlooking the ruins... had a quick cup of coffee but the table was dirty and the chairs were held together with tape (not horrible but not where we wanted to sit either). We decided to try to find a restaurant further in.
We paid and wandered into the Old Town area... (we were actually lost and didn't realize we were in the old town of Kos) ... We found several restaurants ... we had an awkward moment when David was reading a menu at one place and I was at another... David apologised to the people he was chatting with and walked over to look at Elia's menu. He thought it looked more Greek (as opposed to many restaurants where half of their menu is German or European...great food but we want it in their local areas...)
We really liked the interior of the restaurant. We loved the paintings and the wine bottles hanging on the walls. We ordered Greek Salad, house wine, Yogurt cucumber dip with pita bread, and lamb. We were served some wonderful olive bread when we first sat down. It was wonderful. They brought us a second plate of it.
The food was good. It seems it is difficult to get a Greek meal without the chips (french fries). But they were actually quite good here. We were given a plate of different olives... so interesting tasting the different ones. We sat for quite a while speaking to the girl who worked then and then a man who said he was the owner. He had family in America and had traveled there. There was no once else there as we had come in at an odd time. He said in the evenings the garden area and restaurant are often full.
We really enjoyed the visit and the restaurant although it wasn't strictly authentic. It was closer than many and the atmosphere was nice. We will go back when we are on Kos again.
