Amazing Nov 13, 2011
Riding an Elephant was on my bucket lost, and I finally got to do it in November 2011 at the Elephant Village Camp just outside Luang Prabang.

We paid about $50 for our day. Starting early, a mini bus collected us at our guesthouse, and we drove on unpaved roads to the camp. It is beautifully kept, and the animals seem very well cared for, although we rode just before lunch and I think our girl had the munchies!

Lunch was included in the price, as was a trip to the nearby Tad Se waterfalls.

You go up a platform that is conviently elephant height, where the rider will help you get on. Take off your shoes, you might get them wet. You and your partner ride on a bench on the elephants back down to the river, then you take turns riding on her neck!

Just a tip - don't wear short shorts. Wear knee lenght or full lenght; elephants are suprisingly stubbly!

You are taken down the river to a little island, where your rider will take photos for you, then back around in a loop to the camp.

It is so amazing! i would recommend it to anyone; escpecially this camp as the animals are greatly looked after.
