Elefterios Venizelos Airport Museum Reviews
Museum to occupy your airport time..... Oct 28, 2009
The new Athens airport, called Elefterios Venizelos Airport, was officially opened in March 2001. It is located near the town of Spata, in the eastern Messoghia plain, some 35 km (22 mi) east of Athens. We found only one motel near the airport: of course, the prices were not cheap. Each time we have been in Athens we have opted to stay downtown and get transportation to the airport.
It’s a fairly easy airport to navigate in. It was clearly marked and less stressful than a lot of airports. Above the Olympic Airlines area we could see a archeological museum. When did we ever pass up a museum?…. We walked up and looked around. Although our time was limited we enjoyed the small museum of Archeology. The archaeological items were discovered in the excavations when they were constructing the airport. The items date from Neolithic and Early Helladic through the Post-Byzantine period (4th and 5th century AD ). We took some pictures but I did not write down the items names and dates. If you are in the airport do go visit. It’s easy to access, free and a good diversion to stay away from the Airport Shops! (HEY! Is that why David was so happy to go there???) Anyway...Whatever his motive... it was a fun museum to visit... |
