Not worth the detour at night Dec 19, 2013
Definitely not on par with the other Christmas attractions in Philadelphia, the Electrical Spectacle: A Holiday Light Show in Franklin Square is one that can be skipped, for a couple of reasons.

First reason, Franklin Square is located about a block from the African American Museum in Philadelphia, and quite a walk from eveything else. Not sure how to get there by public transportation, but by night time anyway, there are fewer buses running at that time. Plus you have to go through some deserted areas, which is not recommended at night time.

Second reason, is the light show itself. It is basically the flashing of the Christmas lights throughout the square, set to the classical Christmas music, by the Philly Pops (an orchestra based group in Philly). While the light show itself is okay, it’s not really worth it enough, to make the detour to Franklin Square.

The only reason to come to Franklin Square, is if you want to see more Christmas lights in an interesting way. It is very nice to see. I wrote more about that in the blog.

There is a merry-go-round carousel in the park, which is something you can do, if you have kids, while waiting for the next show. The light show happens every half hour, from 4:30 PM to 8 PM, during the month of December.

Unless you want to do something different, this is one Christmas attraction that is not must-see at all. And that’s putting it very nicely, as it is Christmas after all. ;)
