El Tren Dorado

El Tren Dorado is a nice and cheap option for a stay in Riobamba. The hotel is small, clean and coasy and about half of the rooms have a large television in the room.
Ecuadorian television often airs Hollywood movies in their original English language and Spanish subtitles, so if you like to kick back and watch television at night you may want to ask for a room with television. Do note that most movies that are on television usually feature Steven Segal or Jean Claude van Damme…

The showers can be a bit of an unpleasant surprise since the hot water may change into ice cold after a minute or two (not unusual in Ecuador). The owner of the hotel is happy to offer an overload on advice on how to first use the warm water in the sink in order to have a few more minutes of warm water in the shower.

The hotel is a few feet from the train station where the train to ‘el Nariz del Diablo' leaves. On ‘traindays’ the hotel serves a self-service breakfast at 5:30 in the morning.
