Friendly Mezcal Bar Apr 22, 2011
Mezcal is a drink made from the agave plant (same plant used for tequila). One of the most famous brands of Mezcal in Mexico is Tinieblo.

We came across this trendy Mezcal bar and have visited a couple of times. Augustin works behind the bar and José Antonio is the owner. Augustin doesn't speak much english but don't worry.

Mezcal is typically consumed by itself in shot glasses. It's aged in oak barrels and you order based on how aged it is.

Blanco/Joven (white or young) is aged about 30 days

Reposado is aged 60 days

Añejo is aged 2 years

The more aged the higher the cost (40 to 70 MXN). Sip it and enjoy. It's not as harsh a tequila and quite pleasant. To accompany it you can eat orange slices covered is chile flakes.

Orange slices -never thought about it. Interesting. The deer head is something else. Very informative.
