El Taco Loco Reviews

Decent Food, but they don't do everything right Jun 08, 2008
El Taco Loco is one of about a dozen Mexican restaurants in Brighton. I rate it my 6th favorite of those dozen. That is not to say it doesn’t have good food. There food is pretty good. El Taco Loco’s food is more authentic than most others. They have some choices not found in most of the other, like Barbacoa. (Barbacoa is spiced shredded beef). My wife says that their tamales are the best in town. I don’t care for tamales, but even when I tried a bite of her’s I thought they were pretty good. They also have the creamiest guacamole I have ever scene. But after that, to me the food is just ordinary. Far from bad, but nothing that really sets it apart.

Now for the things that I don’t like. First, you have to seat yourself. This is not something you generally see in a restaurant of this size and is a bit annoying. The wait staff also has to bus their own tables, so when it is busy you often have no choice but to pick a table with dirty dishes and wait for the table to be bused. The restaurant décor is nice, with brightly decorated chairs and the walls are painted to look like adobe. But, the waitresses are all dressed in Taco Loco T-shirts and blue jeans, which detracts from the ambiance. They also don’t smile a lot, which is generally a downer.

They don’t accept checks, which is becoming the norm.

I’m probably being a little tough on them. But, like I have mentioned before there is a lot of competition for the Mexican food dollar in Brighton, so you have to do everything right. Would I go back? Sure. Like I mentioned my wife loves the tamales and the food isn’t bad at all. But, I enjoy myself more at other local places so I like to go here more for a change of pace.
