El Santuario Chimayo Reviews
A Spiritual Experiance May 03, 2011
El Santuario de Chimayó is was a private church built in 1816 for the peoples of the area to worship Jesus. It is now maintained by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and it also a historical landmark.
The dirt or clay in the area has been said to have healing powers. In a small room called el pocito is the "dirt pit". People will take a small amount of the "holy dirt", often in hopes of a miraculous cure. There are crutches and various medical things on the walls.
Now, I go there as Jew, not at a Catholic but there is no denying the spirituality of the area. It is a calm, peaceful, beautiful place. It is quite though there are often many people there.
