At an altitude of around 3000 metres this refuge is the highest point on Volcan Lanin where you are allowed to sleep.
It is one of three refuges available. You have to pick which you want to stay in when you start the climb - there's the army refuge with a heli-pad (you never know), the crumbly looking middle one whose name escapes me or this one built by the Club Andino. It has all the mod-cons.... steel construction, cement floor with a plastic coating, a door (I could go on) and outside is an endless supply of snow to melt for your nightly hot cocoa. If you get up at 6am you can watch the most fantastic sun rise you'll ever experience. Lovely place. You might like to bring your own sleeping bag and thermals though. |
