El Raval Barcelona Reviews
El Raval - Barcelona Jul 20, 2008
El Raval is a barrio (district) in Ciutat Vella - the neighborhood is also known as Barri Xino - "Chinatown." El Raval is one of the two historical neighbourhoods that border the Rambla -the other being the Barri Gotic.
An area historically infamous for its nightlife and cabarets, as well as prostitution and crime, El Raval has changed significantly in recent years and, due its central location, has become a minor attraction of Barcelona. It is currently the home to a very diverse immigrant community from Pakistans and Indonesians, and more recent Eastern European community. El Raval is also becoming one of the hippest up-and-coming neighbourhoods of Barcelona where many artists live and work. It is home to many bars, restaurants, and night spots.
Our hostel was in Calle Hospital in El Raval, so we had a chance to be a part of it and to see also this side of life in Barcelona – interesting experience for sure :o)
