Interesting Night Out Dec 19, 2011
After living in San Jose, Costa Rica for a few months, I finally got up the courage to venture to El Pueblo (I had heard some terrible stories and many Costa Ricans told me never to go there.) I ended up going a couple of times before leaving CR, some of the bars are decent (check out 'Ta Buena all the way at the top of the hill) but it's certainly not the safest place, so especially if you're a female I'd recommend going somewhere else. The parties get going pretty late at this place since a lot of people go there after a night out at other bars (like 2am), cabs charge an extra fee to leave from here at that time so bring plenty of cash and maybe some pepper spray. Also experienced some racism directed toward one of my friends from the bouncers (my friend was from Puerto Viejo and it was obvious he was from the Caribbean side...

El Pueblo Night Life Jun 19, 2011
A group of travelers including myself arrived to San Jose, Costa Rica on a Friday. We decided to go our for a night of good music and drinks. A local told us about EL Pueblo, which is several bars and clubs cluster together in about a 1-2 block area. When we arrived the place was dead. We were the only ones there. Since we were a large group, we made the best of it and enjoyed the night. The next day we left for two weeks into the country side. However, when we returned to San Jose on a Sunday, we decided to go back to El Pueblo and WOW!!!! Sunday's is the best night to go...the place was crowded, good music, locals and tourist dancing and drinking all night.... The place was definately full of energy....what an incredible night
