Not so good pachamanca (traditional dish) Nov 21, 2009
Pachamanca is a traditional dish in Huancayo and since we were here, we'd try it. I have already tried it in Lima and was ok, but nothing outrageous maybe here it'd be different...
The taxi driver drove us to this town: San Jeronimo de Tuman, where there are several restaurants on the road offering traditional cuisine. They were supposed to be the experts.
It was an open restaurant, a countryside one. You could see how they cook the pachamanca which is about buried meat (pork, chicken and beef) with potato, sweet potato, lima beans and tamal as side. Since they are cooking for so many people, they cook a lot of food at once, so if you arrive late your dish might be cold or they might have run out of something you'd like to have...
The sauce didn't look very nice, so I didn't even try the meat, but was told it was dry and the sauce had a strong flavor. Tried the tamal. It was ok, but nothing wow!
I was disappointed about this meal. The location wasn't good either. I don't have any problem about eating in a fancy restaurant or in a market stand, but service was bad too...
