Welcome to Poble Espanyol de Barcelona Nov 10, 2008
Poble Espanyol is a unique architectural experiment.

Come and follow me through the gates of Poble Espanyol de Barcelona, and are ready to embark on a journey which will bring us (you) in touch with some of the most remarkable corners of Spain. Poble Espanyol was built for Barcelona's 1929 International Exhibition, this architectural museum features reproductions of 117 buildings, streets and squares from throughout the peninsula within a complex measuring some 49.000 m2, following an original design by modernist architect Puig i Cadafalch. During our walk through little Spain, we will discouver traditional Andalusian whitewashed villages, aragonese town squares, climb the steps of the cathedral os Santiago de Compostela and visit a catalan romanesque monastry. This village is also home to 40 craft workshops and of course there are several restaurants, and now it's time for a drink, after that we will proceed our tour.

We get off the bus at the stop at Poble Espanyol, an outdoor open-air architectural museum that is located on Montjuïc hill. It was constructed in 1929, for the Barcelona International Exhibition. The idea behind the museum is a town in which the architecture, style and culture of various locations in Spain are preserved. The result is a lovely, very atmospheric village that is full of nice terraces, restaurants and quaint shops. There is a small glass company where you can see how glass is made and a leather shop, where Jochem and Rens buy hand-made belts that are made on the spot. There are several mouth watering jewel shops, clothing and hat shops, a shop that sells candles and paper, and it is all hand-made. It’s truly a joy to stroll through the narrow streets and explore the nice buildings and attractive shops inside.
