El Pico de Orizaba

A good summit to have on your resume Jul 24, 2011
El Pico de Orizaba sits at roughly ~18,500 feet.
Overall it is not a very technically difficult climb but you should be prepared for some glacier travel.
Base camp is at 14,000 feet and the 2,000 feet between that and the glacier is a loose rock scramble.
The remaining 2,000 feet is a glacier walk and you should have crampons and an ice axe.
Many people will go through an outfitter named Senor Reyes who will transport you to the mountain but I would recommend staying in another hotel who the owner (Paulo) is as equally accommodating and cheaper too!
