El Escondite de Cantuña
El Escondite de Cantuña Reviews
Great view, nice atmosphere and good service at Escondite de Cantuña Aug 17, 2009
After sightseeing in Old Town, we went to Itchimbia sector in order to get a really nice view of the city.
This area is located on a hill and there are some restaurants and cafes over there. Shawn and me were there during my first visit to Ecuador, but the place we tried wasn't that good. We were looking for a cafe, that was open, and found this one. The view was breathtaking. All the tables are behind a glass, so you won't get cold - great idea! The cafe was very nice. Walls with warm colors, so it felt even cozier here. The cushions were bright blue and green, nice contrast. Love the modern style and the incense burning touch. It was really early for dinner and we weren't hungry, nor have much time. So Shawn and Jen got coffee, and I got a juice. To eat we ordered an appetizer called: Miniempanadas Costa & Sierra (Miniempanadas Coast & Highlands). There were 3 miniempanadas of verde (plantain) stuffed with cheese which are typical from the coast and 3 others of morocho (white corn turnover) stuffed with meat. Personally I prefer the verde ones, but both were tasty. Nice presentation! They were warm and came with a great sauce. Our waitress was very kind and helpful. Very good service. Now talk about the prices. This place isn't cheap. Food is good, not very large portions, but tasty and neat presentation. Also you have to think you are also paying for the amazing view.
