El Ejido Vacation Guide

El Ejido is a city in the province of Almería the the autonomous community of Andalusia in Southern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. Originally El Ejido was just a few buidings and businesses on the Carretera de Málaga which connects the city of Almería with other cities to the south. It was know as Campo de Dalías and was a part of that municipality. In the late 1970’s and 1980’s greenhouse agriculture began to flourish in the area, and the town went from being a poor dusty town, to one of the richest towns in Andalusia.

From a tourism point of view, El Ejido in itself isn’t very interesting, however it does offer some good golf courses, a nice beach and some nice hotels in Urbanización Almerimar. There are also some nice areas to enjoy nature, including some great bird watching at Punta Entinas – Sabinar. It is also close to the Alpujarra mountains and the town of Berja which is picturesque.
