El Conquistador Resort & Golden Door Spa Reviews
El Conquistador Review Jun 12, 2009
While staying at this Resort my cash and credit cards were stolen by the housekeeping people costing me more than the entire trip itself in charges. When I made a report to the hotel they wrote down my information and nothing more. I will never go back there and I do not recomend this place to anyone. Terrible experience and terrible service.

Beautiful Resort, great for a Romantic Vacation and Scuba Diving ! May 11, 2008
This resort was absolutely Georgous ! You never have to leave (which is good because it is sort of in the middle of nowhere). It is highly recommended for a romantic getaway or a family with children. ( If you are going with friends and looking to party I recommend going to San Juan & Old San Juan, not Fajardo). This resort is truly breathtaking. It is built into a hillside, and has 3 levels where there are rooms. To get from the top level to the bottom, you take a funicular. The top level is the main level with the lobby of the hotel and some pools, the middle level has rooms which look out onto another pool, and the bottom level is right by the marina, these are by far the best if you want a balcony with an ocean view, my room was bigger than most with high ceilings (but i dont' 'know if this is the norm as I think some of the rooms with ocean views on the top level are bigger), these rooms and are a little more secluded, they are also closest to the marina and the ferry, you can just walk out to the ferry instead of taking the funicular. But check the website, there is a large variety of rooms & views. The resort is like a city in and of itself.
I stayed at the bottom level and our deck opened onto a view of the ocean, it was so beautiful. (I will post pictures soon) There is no beach at the resort but there is a ferry whichleaves evey 20 minutes or so, taking guests to the resort's own private little island with a beach and restaurant etc.. This was very nice. You can hike, or kyak here, play on the beach, eat at the restaurant. The pools at the resort were all very nice. My favorite was the pool with the swim up bar, there are even stools in the water to sit on and enjoy your frozen margarita ! There are also all sorts of water sports. We went scuba diving and the instructor was wonderful, knowledgable and patient with first timers like myself. She teaches you right in one of the hotel pools, then you take off right from the resort in a boat to the dive location, this was wonderful and so convenient ! For those less brave there is another boat that will take you snorkeling. There are restaurants ad a club in the hotel, so you really never have to leave ( which is good since there is no "city" to speak of) We ventured out one night to find a restaurant in a residential area which was a fun experience. If you are looking for a proper city, to explore nightlife and restaurants, this is not for you, but f you are looking for a fun relaxing vacation with your family, or a romantic getaway with your honey this is perfect ! Oh also fajardo is minutes away from the El Yunque rainforest and about 40 minutes by cab to San Juan if you want to take day trips. |
