Not the Washington one..... Mar 17, 2017
It's name recalls of course the Capitol in Washington but in fact is based on the design of the Pantheon in Paris, although the cupola was constructed and imported from the US. Finished in 1929 it was the home of the government until the Revolution, when the new regime disbanded the Congress. It then became the Ministry of Science and Technology. Under renovation by the government since 2010, this is another building where there is no entry, although it is destined to return to it's former use as the seat of the national Assembly.

A stunning building Mar 28, 2016
The El Capitol is a majestic building located in the middle of town and it is a copy of the US senate - just a bit bigger as I understand it. The building are these days undergoing a reconstruction, which will make it another masterpiece in this city full of so many stunning houses. As I have understood Raul Castro wants to move the Cuban Parliament into these old premisses.

The access to the building is today blocked but it is well worth walking around El Capitol not only because of the building itself but also due to all the pretty houses surrounding the building.
