El Caldero Sabroso Old San Juan Reviews
Real Good PR food Nov 23, 2009
In downtown Old San Juan, one could find all sorts of food but for some reason we had issues finding a traditional PR cuisine restaurant. We walked by this place a couple of times but never caught our eye until the chef stepped out of the kitchen with her bid chef hat on.
The Chef turned out to be the owner, Ita, who makes delicious authentic PR food. I tried the shrimp mofongo (smashed plantains with shrimp on top and in the middle) and Fed tried the pork. Both plates were delicious and if we had time, we would have gone back a second time.
Ita makes all her food from scratch and makes her own special sauces. The shrimp mofongo sauce was a bit like chimi-churri with olive oil..very good.
I recommend El Caldero to anyone who is looking for authentic puerto rican cuisine.
