Eger - Drinking the bulls blood

While in Budapest we decided to take a one night holiday out to the country to a town called Eger. Apparently a pictureque little hungarian town with great wines. sounded perfect. The plan got off to a rather slow start when our train which was supposed to take two and half hours stopped (not at stations) about 100 times in the first hour. We really didn't think we were going to make it.. however this must be built into the timetable as we arrived there only about 30mins late. We knew that we…

Road trip around Hungary. We went down to the Ballaton and stayed by the Danube in Halazi. Visiting caves in aggtelek near Eger, known for its wines. They have a wine market place called the pretty lady valley, its name comes from te fact that after a few wines all the ladies look pretty... Beautiful culture to get to know, rich in history and the food is amazing! Known for their goulash, all their foods are rich in taste and the restaurants are so cheap with a huge variety on the menu!!!!

Decidi tom…

Eger

This town is pretty small, and is famous for some wine called Bull's Blood.  I didn't get a chance to sample it, but I did go to the "Valley of Beautiful Women", where there were no less than 25 different caves with wine tasting in them.  Some of them were pretty good, while others tasted like Welch's grape juice.  I tried this liquor called Unicum, which was a revolting mix of licorice and turpentine flavors (or what I'm assuming turpentine tastes like).  There was a good…

A quick note...

Techically I'm a liar as Ev and I are currently sitting in front of a computer in Budapest, but we were in Eger earlier today and neither of us had the time to write about the town. Eger is in north/central Hungary, about 2 hours by train from Budapest.  It is known for its red wine (YUM!) and has about 50K people or so.  To be honest, I was quite nervous to go there as I figured there would be a severe language barrier and there's not much Hungarian Ev and I could learn on the aft…
