Big restaurant with no name quality Nov 10, 2012
N51°3'36.0" E3°43'42.1" The quarter of Pattershol is the place for oncoming restaurants, and Multatuli on the riverbank of the Leie in the Van Crombrugghe building is one of them. Since its complete restoration in 2003 this large building with several dinning rooms downstairs and upstairs and terraces on the street and in the garden serves many guests and large groups. It is popular and reservation is needed.

You enter Multatuli by a large corridor that ends in the garden. Meanwhile you pass the kitchen on the right. The corridor is a storage space for the kitchen as well. Peculiar and this doesn’t add to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

That Multatuli is a large restaurant was made clear when we ordered some drinks on the terrace in front of the building first. When we wanted to move to our table in the restaurant, we had to settle the bill first. Every section has its own staff of mostly student workers.

The red wine wasn’t bad, but supermarkets nowadays offer better quality. The tuna and pepper steak didn’t excite our culinary imagination. They were not bad, but they were of no name. Nothing makes it somewhat special. Nothing shows the hand of the chef.

Multatuli is a big restaurant that aims at large audiences. Their menu must satisfy a broad group of guests. But it didn’t satisfy us.
