Heritage Days in Edmonton is a weekend long 'festival' you could say. It coincides with Heritage Day (Canadian Holiday) aka "August Long Weekend."
In William Hawrelak park (a MASSIVE city park btw) many countries are represented by a fairly large 'booth'/tent section. Walk around and check out what they got, some tents show photos, tools and dress common in that culture. Some countries put on performances (dancing/singing) a few times a day. Sometimes the audience is called up to participate in the singing and dancing (VERY fun!). My favorite part about this festival is the food. Yes, I said it. I am a ethnic food addict. Specialty meals and treats from cultures can be bought (with meal tickets, relates to roughly 5 dollars for a decent portion) from most tents. For some, like me, this a great way to taste the world in a days work!:) Most places of very authentic quality. You could whip down to Ethiopia for some injera and lentils, walk back to India for samosas, run to Mexico for a churro, or head to Turkey for some coffee and baklava for dessert! The world is yours!! |
