UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!! I'm writing this blog on 3rd Jan 2009 as I sit on my balcony, it's about 84F/28C outside at the moment. Gotta love Texan winters! Edinburgh through the years has always had a significance to me (and to others) as another important city in the UK. It was perhaps the only Scottish city I could name when I was a kid. And so when I planned my trip, rather, when I went to Scotland and Vaiji told me that I'd be going to Edinburgh one day, it felt good! I woke up that…

Edinburgh is one of those cities where you go and get amazed at first sight! You won't want to get back home after spending a charming afternoon in a castle, believe in me!

Scotland: Edinburgh and The Open
posted by:

I was very excited to go up to Scotland this past weekend for my longest (and farthest away) weekend trip yet. Soon after class ended on Thursday, I'd say probably about half of the people on the program showed up at the train station awaiting the 6-hour train ride up north to Edinburgh. The mass exodus up to Scotland was mostly due to The British Open, much like the first weekend at Wimbledon. Apparently, we weren't the only ones who wanted to travel north, and the train w…

After Uni, and after surfing Canary Islands, and after my detour to USA to have Christmas with my sister, I made my way to Edinburgh for a Hogmanny New Years with my uni mates. We also squeezed in a London visit on the way...Hogmanny was definitely the best new years i've had. Scottish people totally rock!

Edinburgh was our first stay in a hostel. Our hostel, the Globetrotter, was amazing. It was not what you typically would think of a hostel. It was very clean and very safe. The city in general was very beautiful. My favorite part was climbing to the top of King Arthur's seat. From there we could get the most beautiful view of the city!

My, what a cool city. It definitely has a medieval feel to it. I spent several hours here just wandering the old cobblestone streets, admiring the various old buildings, statues, and monuments. There are at several castles here, with Edinburgh castle, perched on a cliffside, being the most dominant. It is the most impressive castle I've seen so far (although I have only seen a handful). The second night I was here, a school marching band performed in the castle courtyard, with the whole Scott…
