The plan was to stay in Edinburgh for 2 nights and then 2 nights Glasgow but soccer came in our way....well, in my way really. Ed wanted to see Celtic vs Rangers in Glasgow and as Iceland was really my treat, I thought I can hardly say no. Tickets were bought and hotels rearranged. I had a hard time with the receptionist in the hotel in Edinburgh, he actually made me cry but I suppose that was because we walked all the way from the train station to the hotel in the pouring rain after being up…

Histoire
We have a history, Edinburgh and I. Nothing I am going to go into here, but it is the scene of one of the worst weekends of my life, so I am looking to reclaim it because it is a gorgeous city. If you sit in the cafes on Prince's Street and look at the castle, you can see where Rowling's inspiration for Harry Potter comes from. If ever a city brooded, it is Edinburgh.
Environmentally Sound?
As most of travels seem to be at the moment, I was up in Scotland with w…

After leaving Glasgow we went the scenic route to Edinburgh, travelling north via Loch Lomond to Crainlarach then across through the Trussocks to Stirling, where we visited the brilliant Sterling castle which is perched on the steep hills overlooking the motorway (although that wasn’t there when it was built). They used to say that “he who holds Stirling, holds Scotland” which means that Scotland is now held by tour parties of Spanish school students... However, despit…

We briefly went to Manchester to drop off my luggage only to leave for Edinburgh the next day (Monday). I really just wanted to stay put for a while and set up my bedroom and organise everything out of my case and into a set spot...but nope - away we go. On one hand it was really exciting to be going somewhere else to travel but at the same time I was really eating into my Aussie savings and wanted to find a job and start earning British pounds, and to settle my bank account and transfer mone…

Sophie and Robert arrive at Rosslyn Chapel, where Sophie is reunited with her long last grandmother and brother. She also learns that she is a direct descendant of Mary Magdelene and Jesus Christ, and seems to take both of these extraordinary events pretty well. Unfortunately, Robert Langdon is informed that the Holy Grail is no longer kept beneath Rosslyn Chapel, and is told mysteriously that "one day it will dawn on him."

I have a lot of home towns, and several towns I would love to adopt. I also don't have a great attention span for just sitting indoors on the weekends. This Blog is about all the places I've been to since I got back from the Netherlands, the weekends with friends, and the nights out along the way.

Travelled thru York. Rainy days. Saw the Viking Jorvick Museum, which was a good ride, but the Clifford Tower was a bit of a let down. York Dungeon was pretty good stuff. Walked around and saw the Cathedral York Minster. Had teas at Sloans. Then to the "Golden Fleece" for dinner. Did the Ghost Walk in the rainy evening around York. we liked that experience a lot.
Onwards to Hadrians Wall where it was blowing a freezing gale. The Scottish may have been kept from breaching the wall, but the w…
