Edelweiss Cafe Georgetown Reviews
Cosy little Swiss cafe in the midst of heritage enclave Apr 14, 2011
Found this cosy little place while I last visited Penang. It is located somewhere in the old town area, in the heritage enclave and is near a few of the famous sights.
There is a little flag (I think its a Swiss flag) outside the shop, which is on a narrow road called Armenian Street. This row is that of prewar shoplots, hence they are very small narrow houses (in a way, reminds me of those in Amsterdam), but when you get inside, its actually quite long in length, which is very characteristic of such houses.
The interior of the shop is very beautifully decorated with antique collectibles. The lamps are also very old, antique but very unique. The place uses the Peranakan type of marble tables as dining tables, and even have the dressing table from a Peranakan home, but here, its used as a sidecupboard.
The menu has some good western (was told its Swiss) dishes as well as some local dishes, at reasonable price. There is also a fairly wide range of alcoholic drinks, all placed on the bar counter made of old antique wood.
All in, the dishes are quite tasty and delicious, though I went during the holiday time, hence had to wait for quite some time for the food to be served. Nonethless, really love the ambience of the place, dining in a quiet surrounding of a beautifully restored prewar house. :)
