Finally in Ecuador!! Our adventure begins after a very long and uncomfortable journey, we made it!
We crossed the border VERY early this morning - 6 am and immediately landed a ride to the next nearby town of Tulcán. Not too much to see here besides the amazing landscape . . . Incredible! So far, what we've seen of it, reminds us a lot of the landscape in Southern France. It's very green and breathtaking. The folks here are also very kind so far, and actually a bit reserved. …

We got up early in Pasto and got on a bus to Ipailes which is right at the border between Colombia and Ecuador. We had heard from past travellers that Ipailes was a very unattractive town, and this was backed up by our Footprints guidebook - however on getting there we both agreed that it was far better than Pasto and also wasn´t as polluted either! We passed some fantastic scenery on the way down through a deep gorge. The landscape was much like the Canterbury region back home with barren h…

i am in love! and just had one of the best 10mins of my life......!
i had such an amazing dive in the galapagos amd I love these islands. Out at Gordon Rocks dive site which is an eroded volcano crater in the middle of the ocean. We roll out of the boat into waves and disappear under water. About 30m down. a couple of minutes in we see the first 2 sharks - white tip reef sharks. then head across the sandy bottom, littered with starfish and stop. Coming towards me is one hammerhead …

Los Angeles, CA to Quito, Ecuador. Stayed in Ecuador for one month going from Quito, to Tena/Misahualli in the Amazon, to Guayaquil on the coast, to Salinas, to the surf town of Montanita, back to Guayaquil to fly to the Galapagos Islands. We saw Isla Santa Cruz and Isla Isabella...truly an amazing place. Returned to Quito after 8 days in the Galapagos and then hopped a bus to Otavalo for the famous Saturday market. Ecuador is an amazingly diverse country and more people should travel there!
