Arriving in the Galapagos
posted by:
Jul 15, 2005 - Jul 16, 2005
We landed on San Cristobal Island, at the time the main port of entry to the Islands, as the main airport on Baltra was being renovated (now completed).  Formalities were pretty quick, as the administrative stuff had been taken care of by the tour company.  A quick jaunt through town by minibus brings us to the "landing;" a set of concrete steps ending in the harbor.  A small fleet of Zodiac boats awaited to take people to their respective boats.  Bags were, thankfully, ha...

For the past two weeks, we have been learning Spanish and how to salsa at Bipo & Toni´s Academia de Espanol. Who are Bipo and Toni? Unfortunately that question will go unanswered as today was our last day. We bade a tearful farewell to our teachers, the delicious bread offered at break, and the humbling Spanish vocabulary board games. I (This is Audrey, by the way) have not had a Spanish lesson since second grade so it was great to learn the grammar behind la isl...

Part I: The Rainforest
posted by:
Jan 02, 2005 - Jun 23, 2007
Okay. Im back from the Rainforest and I survived! Ha.Anyways, just to give you an update. On the plane ride to Ecuador we had a huge delay in Texas because of a hyrdolics problem, however, we arrived at our hostel by 1:30am and I was in bed by 2:00am for a 6:00am wake up call. On the plane ride over I finished reading Confessions of an Economic Hitman. I suggest everyone read this book. It is wicked interesting and gave me a lot of insight (and factual) information on just how detrimental som...

The most beautiful place on earth
posted by:
Jul 09, 2007
As you arrive to the magical lagoon by canoe the first thing that hits you is the serenity. The sun was setting and everything sparkled in its natural state, the feeling of purity, harmony and life was permeating all round. The local guides are true experts in the surrounding rainforest; there own enthusiasm and love for the habitat is contagious, the long bush walks were more than facinating, mind blowing! the fresh oxygen, the birds! the monkeys! the lizards, the insects, the various trees,...

Cuenca is Cool
posted by:
Mar 13, 2007 - Aug 06, 2007
Oh Cuenca, how beautiful you are. Cuenca was like an oasis after the terrible border crossing we had. So happy to be in Ecuador! Cuenca is the most unique city that we have been to on this Latin America tour 2007 and the only place we could both see ourselves living in for a long period of time. The city is very modern yet has beautiful colonial architecture that they have maintained quite well. It is also a university town which always lends itself to great nightlife and good cheap eateries....

Cayambe, Bizcocho city
posted by:
Jul 05, 2007
I went on Thursday to Cayambe with my family because we wanted to buy fresh biszcochos to send to USA with one of my aunts who lives there, my family in the States love bizcochos so, we went there... The landscape is amazing!! but it's pretty funny, when we were going to Cayambe, we decided to go through the "long" road, not the bypass, the landscape there is green, there are lots of mountains, and well, green everywhere, but when we came back, we went trough the bypass, there everythi...

Ok sorry for the delay in writing this for all of you who thought i was dead, it is hard to get to an internet cafe with enough time for me to ramble. Ok so what has happened since my last blog? So we went to Quito the capital for a bit and met Joel and Lynette, my brother and his wife who had flown in. It was fantastic to see them and great to all be a family again. I think my dad was glad to not be the only man finally! In Quito we looked at some of the sites. We visited the old town whi...

3/2   Wow I can’t believe it’s March already… crazy.  I think I left off just before the canal.  We spent a couple days at the marina there, I think I wrote about provisioning already, and the only other highlight was this silly dog that came by our boat every now and then named Pit.  She was some sort of Jack Russell looking type and seemed to just wander around the marina at her will.  I had seen her previously at night getting worked up over the fish in th...

Ecuador -› Quito, Ecuador -› ...
We stayed at a cute place called Kokos right on the beach.  We were walking/running distance from the local military installations that are in Salidas.  We were both honored and proud to meet an Ecuadorian Marine and Soldier. As we drove more, we saw the Naval base to and got photos taken with the Ecuadorian Sailors.  Their uniforms are very similar to the United States Navy uniform.  As you can see they are very young too, similar to that our our America...

Sometimes we have to return to the city, but we have many desires of remaining in the beach. Maybe is because there, while we are smiling, we want to tucking up ourselves with the sheets waves of the sea. Sleeping a wet dream, replete with life, without thinking to much.

Arrival in Ecuador
posted by:
Mar 01, 2008 - May 20, 2008
Today I leave Puente 3.  The people here, Mariana, Frank, Maria Jose and Jean Pierre  are very nice and have looked after me well.  Today I leave Quito to embark on the Quilotoa loop, which should involve a fair bit of tramping in the mountains and around the volcanoes.  Afterwards I will head to Banos before heading south to Cuenca and south towards Peru.  The last week has been uneventful but I have had a good time with Eduardo and Marie,  Robert and Kemo, a Sp...
