Econo Lodge Colonie Center Mall – Albany Jul 17, 2016
The Econo Lodge Colonie Center Mall is a two story building on the highway 5, a bit outside of the Albany center and close to the airport which is its only claim to being good place to visit. It is simple highway motel that can be found all over the USA, faceless, simple and basic lodging. Location and pricing are exactly why I went to this hotel for couple of days this summer. The location is great because you can easily go to Saratoga Springs or get out of the town in almost any direction. Price was around 70$ which was good for this time of the year but definitely overpriced (nothing in Saratoga was less than 200$ on any given day)

It offers all basic things if you are going around the area in your car and that pretty much only way to move around due to horrible public transport. There is secure parking and 24h reception that is fairly competent. Right next to reception you’ll find machines with snacks and drinks, and close by is ice machine. So, pretty much you are covered with mixers and ice, and I am not sure if you can legally bring your own drink, but it is tempting. Lobby has a large fireplace, probably just ornamental and that is also where you’ll find breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is consisted of few coffee’s including decaf and different bread / beagles. Some spreads including cheese spread and different sweet spreads, you can toast stuff or microwave it and there is also some choice of cereals. There are some tables in the lobby where you can eat and watch the morning TV with lots of wanna be news, but I was not into it.

Hotel building is not made with a great sound proofing so you’ll hear if someone is loud or if anyone is passing in the front of your room. Room is very spacious and there are two large beds per room, they do have good covers and don’t smell bad. All necessary things are supplied, TV has bunch of programs, and there are coffee cooker and coffee and tea bags. Restroom is well designed, clean and works perfectly well. Towels are on the better quality side, warm and soft.

Place is run by Indian family as many of the highway hotels are, and they are perfectly pleasant, punctual and willing to help any of your questions. Despite the name, I did not see any serious mall around the hotel, but there are many shops, bars and other hotels, therefore it is probably easy to stock up for your future trip or to relax in some restaurant / bar in the area. I don’t know what to say about hotels of this level… They are more on the side of twilight zone then motels. I would love to see some guest houses that don’t charge stupid amounts and pretend that they are “luxurious” for the reason of having TV. There is no charm in this lodging so therefore it is not recommended…

Stay in Albany with a bit of a Colorado feeling Oct 11, 2013
This Econo Lodge was a pleasant surprise.

It is located on Albany's Central Avenue, the hotel avenue. Plenty of choice of all types and sizes.

Restaurants and other facilities are plenty available

This hotel offered me a clean and comfortable room with free parking, free (and OK) WiFi, as well as free breakfast.

The breakfast was not really fancy and extensive, but it worked for me.

So, what about the Colorado feeling? Well, the hotel's lobby, where breakfast is facilitated, has a huge fire place. It looks a bit like a mountain lodge. Very nice.

Combine with a reasonable price I would stay here again and recommend it.
