Echigo Los Angeles Reviews
warm rice, fresh fish Jul 12, 2008
Back on 10/27/2006, i posted this on citysearch:
"been going to this place for years -- back when the only diners were my friends and i. Boy, have things changed. Sometimes, we have to actually wait to be seated. On to the food: i strongly recommend the blue crab rolls. It is true that echigo usually does not have rolls and serves traditional sushi. But, the blue crab roll is excellent! I also recommend the stuffed squid, which is squid stuffed with blue crab. Again, excellent! As for the actual fish, you can't go wrong by odering the salmon, kanpachi, hamachi, monk fish liver. This place is actually one of my favorite sushi places. Service could be spotty depending on your server. But, that should not stop you from going to echigo to enjoy food that would make any sushi lover's mouth water."
i boycotted it for at least a year or two because prices went up and serving sizes got smaller. but my friends and i decided to check it out again last night (7/11/08). the fish was still fresh and i still love the monkfish liver. the blue crab roll was still very good (although it looked like it went on a major diet and was so damned skinny). overall, i still love the fish but i knew this place when i didn't need to make reservations, when the cuts were bigger (and cheaper) and when there weren't so many damned people in there.
if i was new to echigo, i would continue to rave on and on about it. after all, the fish is still quite excellent. but, i am jaded. ah well.
