Eau Claire Vacation Guide
Eau Claire is located in the west-central area of Wisconsin, about 90 miles East of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. A small to mid size city, there are approximately 62,000 residents. Eau Claire (which means clear water) was a logging town in its early history, as it is located at the crux of the Chippewa and Eau Claire rivers which were used to transport logs to mills for processing.
Today the Chippewa River flows right through the heart of the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. UWEC has made Eau Claire into a bit of a college town. As such, there is an abundance of bars, collegiate sports, artistic ventures and college students (approximately 10,500) giving the city an energy and cultural feel not necessarily characteristic for a city of its size.
