Peru, land of calories haha Jan 28, 2009
well, Peruvian cuisine is becoming more and more famous everyday. But this doesn't mean you have to pay a lot of money to get delicious food. There are a lot of places where you can get great food, without damaging your budget.
If you find the word "Menu" in a restaurant, don't expect the list of the dishes served at the place. The list is called "la carta". A "Menu" is a whole meal. It includes an appetizer, an entree and a glass of juice or a soft drink. Some menus include also dessert. The restaurants that offer a menu, usually have 2 choices from each dish, so you can choose what you prefer to eat. The food might not be the best, but you can find great one and it will help you save some money. I almost forgot to say that menus are just served for lunch :) We all know that the most expensive restaurants don't necessary serve the best food. There are small restaurants which serve delicious food and Peruvian ones are not the exception. We call this small but cozy and cheap restaurants: "Huariques" A "Huarique" is a whole concept that includes delicious, tasty but cheap food. You can find huariques in the whole country. They are very well known by locals and despite they are not big or fancy, they are always crowded. There are huariques everywhere and with all kind of food. If you are in Peru and don't know where to go, follow a local. You won't regret it at all. |
