Easter Island is known as Rapa Nui. It is a Chilean island in the south eastern Pacific Ocean. Easter Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population center. The island received its name because it was discovered on Easter Sunday of 1722. Easter Island is famous for its enigmatic “moai” statues. It’s a volcanic high island, consisting of three extinct volcanoes: Terevaka (altitude 507 meters), Poike and Rano Kau . Easter Island today, an open air museum showcasing a fascinating, but unfortunately lost, culture.
